This past weekend we drove down to Galesburg, Illinois (birthplace of Carl Sandburg) for the high school open house of my oldest niece Melissa. My in-law’s home in Chicago is conveniently half-way to Galesburg (birthplace of Carl Sandburg), so we first drove to Chicago and then commuted to Galesburg (birthplace of Carl Sandburg).
We met up with my parents and had a leg crossing contest out on the back porch.
My parent’s got to sleep on Rob and Beth’s pull-out since all the hotels were booked. President Bill Clinton was giving the graduation speech at the local Knox College and this normally quiet town was buzzing.
On the way home mom and dad again decided to crash at somebody’s house and stayed with us at my in-law’s. Sunday we all went running/walking and witnessed the swarms of cicadas emerging from the ground.

So glad you could make it! I'm totally changing my user name on that other messenger I never use after that picture. Ugh!
Thanks for not mentioning Galesburg's more recent claim to "fame". Btw, John may very well be the Knox for whom our Presbyterian founders named the college, but he doesn't appear in its name. :-)

The cicadas are becoming more "in your face". This morning while walking the neighborhood, I almost had one in my mouth.
It was so much fun to have your family stay with us this weekend. Hope we can do that more often.
Love, Mom B
