2007 PLT

The 3rd annual Pickerel Lake Triathlon was a huge success. The weather was perfect, the attendance was good, and for the first time no ringers were there to take the victory.

Melissa invited two of her nursing friends, Melissa T. and Megan, to join.

They came with their husbands, John and Justin.

Melissa's parents were there after renting 'The Cabin in the Sky' on the other side of the lake. They teamed with Jason's parents to form 'The Old Timers' relay team.

Cindy kept score and started off the swim. For the second year, tubes were used to mark a triangular course in front of the cottages. Jason was the first out of the water since (Dolphin) Dan Kett did not participate. Darren forgot his goggles, but still swam fast. Nobody dropped out, and nobody drowned.

The bike ride did not go so well. Jason, Darren, and Randy were in a tight group for the lead. Randy used a road bike for the first time this year and pulled ahead not realizing how treacherous the first half of the course can be for a roadie. He took a turn too fast and suffered a minor wipe out. Soon after, Darren smacked a portable speed bump with his back tire and suffered a flat. That was the end of his race. As Darren was walking his bike back, Jake approached and slammed on the front break to avoid a crash. This sent him over the handlebars and gave him some bloody road rash. Paul Soper was the only biker to take a wrong turn; which is odd seing how this is his 3rd year participating. Evan and Uncle Roger hit the same speed bump as Darren and got flat tires as well. Steve's bike lost its chain 4 times before he was fortunate enough to trade bikes with one of the ladies who happened to be riding by. To top it all off, Dan Johnson was on a tractor spreading sand to repair the out-road as the bikers were trying to go through.

Those who made it through the bike course were rewarded with the grueling 5.2 mile Pickerel Lake run. The sun beat down, and the weather warmed for the run, but both water stations were open which helped. A few of the athletes bonked, but nobody had serious trouble.

So the winner this year was Randy. He trained very hard, and set a new course record. Each year the fastest time has been faster than the year prior. We'll see how long we can keep that up. A couple of notable people were missing this year. Uncle Marv was hit in the shin with a softball and incurred a severe enough bruise to keep him out. A week later Uncle Doug was pitching for the same team when he was also hit in the shin. His injury was severe enough to shatter both tibia and fibula. We pray they both heal quickly, and return in full form next year.

Your tables looked good to me, no excessive scrolling. I've found you have to remove every line break in Darren's code to prevent the excessive open space.

That's a sweet picture of the firework.

Well it looked good when I previewed it. You should just be happy that you have someone who knows ANY HTML who can do tables for you!!!
